Weekly Check-In
You may know this: everyone works through the week, jumping from project to project and from tool to tool. Keeping an overview of who is working on what, where things overlap and how current projects stand, is not exactly easy. Our weekly check-ins are meant to change exactly that, by fostering an open and collaborative team culture and bringing all team members onto the same page at the start of each week.
Monday ritual
Dozens of messages in mails, chats, calls or comments do not exactly make our job easier. Even as a comparatively small team we quickly noticed that we needed a ritual to pull down the information silos and get everyone onto the same page.
Besides the informative part, a simple star rating also gives everyone the chance to share how they are. Are you well? Do you feel able to take things on? Are there private circumstances affecting your concentration at the moment? Especially in creative working contexts like ours, this plays a role that should not be underestimated, in our experience. Talking about it helps us take care of one another and, if possible, shift processes by a week if, because of outside influences, it does not fit. Moan Monday was born.
Basecamp Weekly
What once began as Moan Monday is now called Weekly Check-In. The sense behind it has stayed the same over the years, though: every Monday by 10, everyone is asked to share
a look back at the past week,
where the current work stands,
a preview of the coming week as well as
their current mood .
For that you receive an automated message every Monday morning in your Basecamp dashboard with the question: »What are you working on this week?«. You can then find everyone’s answers as a simple feed under fjn-base and Check-In & Updates.
In the meet-up that follows we talk about it together as a team, plan our week and think about how we can support each other on the tasks and projects coming up. This preferably takes place in person. If you are not on site, you can join virtually.
